Nearly everytime I travel, it always surprises me to meet people who have a connection to home and the Ark-La-Tex. It's almost uncanny. We don't go advertising where we are from, unless it's on a T-shirt or baseball hat, but it frequently comes up.
After driving 8 hours in a car to the Badlands, Dave and I pulled up to the park headquarters to pay for a camping site. We spoke to the nice lady behind the counter and she asked Dave about his Tabasco T-shirt. In less than 10 minutes flat, we learn she's from Haughton, Louisiana and asks us if we know Darrell Rebouche. She lives in her home state during the winter and then works at the Badlands and Yellowstone during the summer.
When we spent an afternoon in Deadwood, someone handed us a flyer touting the festival coming up. Who is headlining? Glen Campbell and his sister Debbie... both from Delight.
When we checked into our nice Bed and Breakfast the last night of our visit, the owner who is a Black Hills native told us she has a sister living in Bossier City. We met another couple in Keystone who was from Oklahoma. He had a sister living in Hope.
Small World.
