When the NFL comes to town, there's a few extracurricular events that go along with it. The Vikings had a great day Sunday, and we got to start the day off with a fundraiser brunch in Edina. (For you out-of-towners, that's the rich, country-club-set neck of the woods. Obviously, we seldom go there.)
Each year, Taste of the NFL collects family recipes from NFL players to include in a cookbook. The cookbook is then sold to benefit several charities that fight hunger. Sunday, the promoters and supporters seemed enthusiastic about their cause, and genuinely appreciative we spent part of our weekend with them.
The food was good breakfast food with the typical gourmet touches. We took home a Sunday Night Football Cookbook to try a few dishes. As I perused the book, I was excited to see an entry from former Razorback Darren McFadden who now plays for the Raiders. Wonder what he ate growing up in North Little Rock?
Apparently, "Turkey Necks with Speckled Grits and Gravy."
That was not served at the luncheon.
